<p>Broadcast time and bandwidth management systems (50) and methods (60) that manage the duration and bandwidth of virtual broadcast channels (54) used in a data distribution system. The system includes one or more physical data transmission channels (51) that each carry one or more time division multiplexed channels (52). One or more virtual channels (54) are provided within each time division multiplexed channel (52). A software algorithm (55) is used to manage the virtual channels (54) within the physical data transmission channels (51). The software algorithm (55) defines a virtual channel identifier (A-C) for each of the virtual channels (54), defines and/or modifies a data rate for each of the virtual channels (54), and defines and/or modifies the duration of each of the virtual channels (54).</p> |
