A method of writing servo signals on a magnetic tape. A fiber bundle (12) including a plurality of parallel optical fibers (11) receives source laser rays at one end and provides output laser rays (24) at the other end. The output laser rays are passed through a convergence lens (13) and emitted on those portions of a magnetic tape (1), where servo signals are to be recorded, while the magnetic tape is running at a predetermined speed. As a result, images (25), equal to or smaller in size than the source images, are formed and those portions are modified physically or chemically to provide a plurality of servo track patterns (S), which extend along the length of the magnetic tape and have a track pitch smaller than the interval between the optical fibers (11) in the bundle.
|
