A device which detects the position of the cooking vessel and guarantees that cooking vessel and heating element automatically agree, is described. The heating element is slid under the cooking vessel or the cooking vessel over the heating element. The position of the cooking vessel is determined in an inductive way. The position of the cooking vessel is also determined in an optical way. The positioning takes place by sliding in two directions. The positioning also takes place by rotation and sliding in one direction.
