The dishwasher has a softener attached to a washing container and essentially consisting of an ion exchanger and a salt container (12) for producing a brine for regenerating the ion exchanger with a filling connector for salt protruding from an opening in the container and closed by a lid. The softener is attached to the washing container using an attachment arrangement screwed onto the externally threaded filling connection with an intermediate seal (16) with a lateral opening (25). An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing the method.
