A hanger with a central flange joined to a back flange with a pair of tabs, one on either side of the central flange, so that the back plate may be attached to a supporting member, particularly a header, and the central flan ge may be attached to the side of a supported member, particularly the web of a C- shaped metal joist. The supported member can be oriented to either left or right and positioned by interface with either the tab on one side of the central flange or with the tab on the other side of the central flange.
