A settling tank for clarifying washing fluids. The tank has walls (18, 19) having plural passages (41, 42) disposed within the tank, defining settling chambers. Fluid enters the innermost chamber from the top, and an inlet (11) to a pump is disposed in the upper part of the tank outside the outermost chamber. A sump pump (17) with a one way valve (21) is connected to an upwardly curved sump tube (25) for sediment discharge.
