A method sealing high speed rotary applications. Firstly, mount a first sealing ring having a plurality of flow passages onto a stationary member. Each of the plurality of flow passages has a discharge end positioned in a first sealing surface. Secondly, mount a second sealing ring onto a rotational member adapted to rotate at high speed. The first sealing ring and the second sealing ring are positioned in face to face relation with a gap between the first sealing surface and a second sealing surface. Thirdly, pump a liquid through the plurality of flow passages at a pressure sufficient to preclude the passage of contaminants through the gap.
