The control system has a clutch control (11) for operation of the clutch (3) between the output shaft (1a) of the engine (1) and the automatic transmission (4), delivering the drive torque to the vehicle wheels, during automatic gear changing under control of a drive control (12). A further control device (13) regulates the output of an auxiliary electric motor (2) coupled to the output side of the clutch, for maintaining the drive force delivered by the engine before clutch disengagement.
