A bidirectional remote control system composed of an electronic appliance (50) and a remote control (30). The electronic appliance (50) is provided with a display information storage section (51) for storing therein display information for displaying buttons, icons or the like necessary to control the electronic appliance itself, and a transmitting section (52) for transmitting display information stored in the display information storage section (51) to the remote control (30). The remote control (30) is provided with a received information storage section (33) for receiving and storing therein display information transmitted from the electronic appliance (50), a display section (31) for displaying display information stored in the received information storage section (33), a position detecting section (32) for detecting an operation of the buttons, icons or the like displayed on the display section (31), and a transmitting section (36) for transmitting information about a button, icon or the like the operation of which has been detected by the position detecting section (32), to the electronic appliance (50) as a control signal. Thus, by utilizing information transmitted from the electronic appliance (50) side, the electronic appliance (50) can be operated even if information about the electronic appliance (50) is not previously registered on the remote control (30) side. <IMAGE> |
