A force feedback interface device provides force sensations (eg. a jolt, vibration, etc) to a pointing device for enhancing interactions and manipulations in a graphical environment. In one embodiment, the buttons 16a (16b, figure 1) on a computer mouse 12 comprise respective actuators 18 coupled thereto which apply an output force in the degree of freedom, z axis, of the buttons. Alternatively, the actuator 208 is provided on a cylindrical rotation/translation cursor control device 200, the output force transmitted to switchbar 204 in the degree of freedom along the z axis. The output force may be correlated with events occurring in a host application program (ie. cursor interaction with other graphical objects). |
