PROCESS FOR PRODUCING VINYL ACETATE RESIN EMULSION AND WATER-BASED ADHESIVE

A process for producing a vinyl acetate resin emulsion by subjecting vinyl acetate to seed polymerization in an emulsion of an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer resin, which comprises the step of conducting the seed polymerization while adding the vinyl acetate to the system and the step of adding a polymerizable unsaturated monomer other than vinyl acetate to the system before or after the seed polymerization. The polymerizable monomer other than vinyl acetate is used in an amount of, for example, about 0.05 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the vinyl acetate. As this polymerisable monomer can be used at least one monomer selected among acrylic esters, methacrylic esters, vinyl esters, and vinyl ethers. By the process, a vinyl acetate resin emulsion can be obtained which has excellent low-temperature film-forming properties and bonding strength even when containing completely no plasticizers and has high bonding strength even during low-temperature aging.
