A realistic roller coaster simulator has one or more passenger seats equipped with a safety harness (124) and mounted for 360 degree rotational movement along at least two axes (130, 132) for simulating the motion of a roller coaster. A design station (12) links to the simulator for the passenger to design his/her own roller coaster. Upon entering the simulator station (100), the passenger's design can be accessed from the memory (14) and selected for simulation on the simulator vehicle (120). A controller (112) controls and coordinates the motion of the simulator with a simulation controller (110) to generate the synchronized audio (21) and visual (20) effects to the passenger, so that the passenger can experience in real time the visual, motive, audible and other effects of the simulated roller coaster ride which the passenger has designed.
