The appts. to condense a drawn sliver has a recess (24) at the paired clamping rollers (14) to hold unclamped sliver (10). The sliding surface (19) with the suction slit (20), for the air-permeable sliver transport belt, extends into the recess and presses the sliver (10) against one of the rollers (15,16) of the clamping pair (14). The sliding surface (19) is aligned exactly at the clamping roller (16), with a spring pressure on it against the roller. The clamping roller (16) has a different surface hardness at the zone in contact with the sliding surface (19) from the zone where it clamps the sliver transport belt (22).
