The temperature regulation method uses a thermostat valve (1) for controlling the flow of the coolant through an engine radiator, with the movement of a setting element (9) of the thermostat valve initially used for opening an overflow opening (19) and subsequent opening of a coolant flow path (5) through the thermostat valve, having a minimum flow cross-section which is greater than that of the overflow opening. An Independent claim for a thermostat valve used for temperature regulation of the coolant for an IC engine is also included.
