PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To economically produce a homogenous-quality polyolefin having a high mol.wt. and a narrow mol.wt. distribution by using a catalyst containing a specific transition metal compound. SOLUTION: The transition metal compound is represented by formula I, wherein M is a transition metal of the group 3, 4, 5 or 6; L1 is represented by formula II wherein A and B are each an element of the group 15 or 16, methylene, alkylidene or the like, L2 is represented by formula III; L3 is represented by formula IV or the like; X is H, halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group or the like; R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group or the like; R3 is H, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group or the like; R4 and R5 are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group or the like; and m is an integer of 1-10.
