PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building material, in which the warpage after painting is small and which has a high weatherability and durability. SOLUTION: In this manufacturing method, a method for forming a composite material by bondingly fixing a wooden veneer on the surface of a plate-like base material is improved. The veneer, the moisture content of which is held in a state to be low, is bonded through an adhesive with a heat resistance to the base material under heat and pressure and coated with a low curing shrinkage stress type paint. The moisture content of the veneer is held below 5%, desirably 2% or less. The curing shrinkage stress after the cold cure of the paint is set to be 50 N/cm2 or less.
