PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To treat game mediums, the number of which is to be counted, without requiring that the medium be carried by a user. SOLUTION: A user who has finished a game by means of a game machine inserts a prepaid card into a card insertion slot 1a of an operation unit 11 corresponding to a game machine 2 at a game medium counting device 1. The device 1 opens a game medium inlet port 1b to place it into a state such that game mediums can be put into the port 1b. Mediums put in from the port 1b are carried to an internal counting unit through a transportation passage 1f and are counted. The device 1 indicates results of counting on a display panel 1d of the unit 11 and prints the results of counting on the prepaid card of the user in response to the depressing operation of a finish button by the user.
