PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a built-in stroboscope and an external stroboscope optimally emit light by making the start of the light emission of the built-in stroboscope later than that of the external stroboscope. SOLUTION: Just after starting an image pickup by a CCD, a light emission preparation signal XE is outputted from a controller 11. Then, a light emission start signal X is outputted to the external stroboscope from an external strobescope light emission start circuit 41, so that the external stroboscope starts to emit light. Simultaneously, a built-in stroboscope light emission preparation circuit 40 completes the preparation of the light emission by the built-in stroboscope. When specified time elapses after the signal XE is outputted, a light emission start signal TG is outputted from the controller 11, and the built-in stroboscope starts to emit the light by a trigger circuit 36. Namely, when the signal XE is outputted, the external stroboscope starts to emit the light. When the specified time elapses after that and the signal TG is outputted, the built-in stroboscope starts to emit the light. Therefore, the external stroboscope emits the light first, and the built-in stroboscope emits the light after the specified time.
