PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer recording method capable of forming a high image quality color image without fouling without the risk of fouling on an image receiving member by an ink of a thermal transfer recording medium at the time of moving down a thermal head onto the thermal transfer recording medium. SOLUTION: In a color thermal transfer recording method for thermal transfer recording on an image receiving member by a thermal transfer recording apparatus comprising a thermal head 1 using a thermal transfer recording medium 10 with a plurality of heat sensitive transfer inks with different colors applied thereon, in the case the thermal head 1 is moved down onto the thermal transfer recording medium 10, it is moved down at a part not applied with the heat sensitive transfer inks.
