PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate halftone data which have a large matrix size and large degrees of freedom of an angle and the number of lines at a high speed through small-scale hardware by generating halftone data of a plurality of pixels at the same time by drawing objects regarding a character pattern. SOLUTION: This halftone generating device generates large threshold matrix data of 180×180 corresponding to an image recording device with high resolution, and then generates and stores binarized matrix data as to all gradation values of the drawing objects in a memory. When the gradation values of the drawing objects have 8-bit constitution, the binarized matrix data of 180×180 matrix size are generated by comparison with the binarization threshold of threshold matrix data as to gradation values 0, 1, 2...255 and stored in the memory, and a specific quantity of binarized matrix data for scanning lines are read out of the memory, so that binarized matrix data of pixels are selectively outputted.
