PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound capable of manifesting pest controlling effects by volatilization under heated or unheated conditions and useful especially as an active ingredient of pest controlling agents for domestic epidemic prevention and clothes insect repellent uses. SOLUTION: This compound is 4-methoxy-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzyl 3-(2,2- difluorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate represented by formula I. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting an alcohol compound represented by formula II with a preferably equimolar amount of a carboxylic acid compound represented by formula III or its reactive derivative preferably in the presence of a condensing agent (e.g. dicyclohexylcarbodiimide) or a base (e.g. triethylamine) in a solvent (e.g. benzene) at -20 deg.C to the boiling point of the reactional solvent or 100 deg.C usually for 5 min to 72 hr. When the above compound is used as an active ingredient of a pest controlling agent, the amount thereof contained is preferably 0.001-95 wt.%.
