PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error correcting device that improves error correction capability. SOLUTION: A coding part 23 generates a code corresponding to a correction pattern of a trellis decoder in a prescribed period and supplies it to an erasure flag generating part 26. The part 26 generates an erasure flag based on the supplied code and the sum of the Humming distances between the input and output of the trellis decoder in the prescribed period which is detected by a total detecting part 25.
