PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which samples a digital image down while maintaining high spatial frequency information. SOLUTION: An input image is sampled down by being sent to a repeater 4 as a spatial frequency map 3 directly and through a spatial frequency estimation unit 2. In the down sampling process, the repeater 4 repeats processes for generating path candidates by a path candidate generator 6 according to a seed longitudinal array generated by a seed longitudinal array generator 5, scoring the candidate paths by a path score evaluation unit 7, selecting the path which has obtained the highest score (a path giving minimum distortion and minimum aliasing) as a path to be removed, and removing the path by a pixel removing unit 8 until desired numbers of pixel rows and columns are removed, thereby obtaining a down-sample image 9. |
