PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new erythromycin derivative useful for treating staphylococcal infectious disease, streptococcal infectious disease, pneumococcosis, brucellosis, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by the formula I (X is CH2 or NH; (m) is 1-8; Y is H or a halogen; R is a group of formula II or the like; and Z is H or an acid residue) such as 11,12-dideoxy-3-de[(2,6-dideoxy-3-C-methyl-3-O- methyl-α-L-ribohexopyranosyl)oxy]-6-O-methyl-3-oxo-12,11-[oxycarbonyl-[[4-[4-(1 H-indol-3-yl)-1H-imidazol-1-yl]butyl]imino]]erythromycin. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula III (M is an acid residue) with a compound of the formula R(CH2)nXNH2.
