PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire which is suitable for a passenger car and a small-sized motor truck with enhanced fatigue resistance at a joint of a carcass and improving motion performance, in particularly maneuvering stability. SOLUTION: This pneumatic radial tire has a carcass 2 as a framework which consists of a ply of a radially arranged cord extending in troidal form between a pair of bead cores. A ply cord of the carcass 2 is a steel cord which consists of N (N: 2-7) pieces of steel filament with a diameter ranged from 0.125 to 0.25 mm and with a basic structure of 1×N, 1+N or 2+N, and an overlap D of an initial end and a terminal end of winding is made not more than 10 mm in the circumferential direction at a joint 5 between the initial end and the terminal end of winding when the ply is wound around a forming drum at a troidal forming of a carcass ply.
