PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor and an image processing method which can perform proper correction of gradation for an image that has primarily gradation data on a low gradation area such as a night scene together with the gradation data significant for a high gradation area and to provide a recording medium which records a processing program. SOLUTION: A histogram measurement part 22 measures the gradation histogram of an image which is inputted from an image input device 10, and a feature value calculation part 23 calculates the feature of the gradation histogram. A correction value calculation part 24 decides the image characteristic in response to the feature that is calculated at the part 23 and calculates the correction value necessary for the correction to extend the dynamic range. If the frequency of high gradation areas of the input image is higher than a prescribed level under such conditions, the correction value is set so as to reduce the degree of extension of the dynamic range compared with other cases. An LUT generation part 25 generates a correction/conversion LUT in response to the correction value. Based on this generated LUT, a gradation correction execution part 26 carries out the gradation correction processing. |
