PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To visually display page information on the handwriting recording device by displaying page information on a digital page so that a user can synchronize a handwritten page with the selected digital page. SOLUTION: In thumbnail display mode, the user selects a digital page in a nonvolatile memory 104. The digital ink of the digital page is processed by reading recorded position data. From this position data, a personal digital notepad(PDN) detects whether or not there is ink recorded in each subarea of the digital page P including subareas. A reduced version of the digital page P is shown by a dynamic icon P' and its respective pixels are specified for subareas as shown by an area 'A' of the digital page. The thumbnail representation of the ink structure of the digital page P is generated by activating the respective pixels of the dynamic icon P' having the specified area of the digital page including the recorded ink.
