If, at an assumed final bit position, the difference between the maximum value of likelihoods of a plurality of decoded data sequence candidates and the likelihood of the decoded data sequence obtained by terminating the decoding process is within a predetermined range, and a calculated error detecting code agrees with a received error detecting code, a decision is made that the assumed final bit position is the final bit position of the transmitted frame data, and the transmitted data is recovered.
