PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which stops a closing operation of an electrically driven shutter curtain, based on detection of an obstacle below the shutter curtain even when the shutter curtain falls due to its weight in an emergency such as a fire, and shares the same means to the greatest extent, for detecting an obstacle when the curtain falls by electric driving and for detecting an obstacle when it falls due to its weight. SOLUTION: In an emergency such as a fire, a breaking means is cancelled, whereby a shutter curtain falls due to its weight. The shutter apparatus is comprised of an obstacle detecting means 16 for detecting an obstacle, a first stopping means for stopping electric driving of the shutter, based on the detection of the obstacle detecting means 16 at the time of electrically driven fall, and a second stopping means for recovering a breaking means, based on the detection of the obstacle detecting means 16 at the time of fall due to its weight. The first stopping means and the second stopping means can be switchable by a switching means 15a.
