PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound as an intermediate for producing medicaments, agrochemicals, etc., in particular herbicidally active compounds, to provide a method for producing the above compound, and to provide a method for industrially advantageously producing 3-methyl-5-(1-propynyl)isoxazole as an intermediate for producing the above compound. SOLUTION: The objective compound, 3-methyl-5-[(cis)-1-propenyl]isoxazole, is obtained by hydrogenating 3-methyl-5-(1-propynyl)isoxazole in the presence of a catalyst. By the way, 3-methyl-5-(1-propynyl)isoxazole is prepared by (a) reaction between dipropynyl ketone and hydroxylamine, (b) by diazotizing decomposition of 5-amino-3-methyl-4-(3-methylisoxazol-5-yl)isoxazole, or (c) by reaction between tetrolic acid ester and acetoxime.
