PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To notify a user of a tape exchanging time prior to the occurrence of defective recording quality and the failure of a device in the case that a tape is deteriorated due to the number of repeated video recordings on the tape, kinds of the tape and the utilization condition of the device. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 3 compares a video omission signal 12 with a preset value and notifies a user about that the tape should be exchanged when the signal 12 exceeds the preset value. Therefor, a character signal 13 is outputted, the character is added to the video signals by a character adding circuit (OSD) of a video signal processing circuit 2 and a warning on tape exchange time is displayed.
