PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic self-cleaning ink jet printer in which cleaning effect is enhanced and an assembling method thereof. SOLUTION: A cleaning assembly has an oscillatory barrier wall 210 arranged oppositely to the surface 90 or an orifice and defines a gap between the surface 90 and the orifice. Since the barrier wall is provided, liquid flowing through the gap is accelerated and a hydrodynamic shearing force is generated in the liquid. The shearing force acts on contaminants to 'clean off' the contaminants from the surface 90 and/or the orifice. An ultrasonic converter 245 communicating with the liquid is also provided in order to move the contaminants forcibly by generating a plurality of pressure waves 247 in the liquid. Furthermore, a pump 290 communicating with the gap through the liquid is provided in order to feed the liquid through the gap. When the surface and/or the orifice is cleaned, the contaminants float in the liquid. Filters 300, 310 separate the contaminants float from the liquid.
