PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a spacer in which the soundness of a weld is superior by installing a means by which the difference in a displacement is absorbed and relaxed between adjacent cells or in a region sandwiched between a cell and a spacer or between the upper-end weld and the lower-part weld of bridge plates. SOLUTION: Welds 5 and 5 are installed at the upper end and the lower end between a cell 1 and a cell 1 which are adjacent to a spacer. As a means which absorbs and relaxes the difference in a displacement near a region sandwiched between the welds 5, 5, a gap which is passed through a plate thickness, i.e., an opening part 7, is formed in at least one place. When a strain due to the difference in their elongation 11 due to an irradiation growth operation or the like is generated between the adjacent cells 1, 1, parts near the welds 5, 5 can be elastically deformed when the opening part 7 is formed in the cell 1 on one side, their displacement is absorbed, and sound parts 5b and 5b can be kept in the weld parts. As a result, when a stress in the axial direction is applied to one out of the two adjacent cells 1, 1, the parts near the welds 5, 5 can be elastically deformed due to the opening part 7, their displacement is absorbed, and the weld parts can be kept sound.
