PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody a large-capacity magnetic storage device by making it possible to apply an MR(magneto-resistance) head to a magnetic storage device which frequently gives rise to thermal asperity and for which the use of the MR head is heretofore impossible. SOLUTION: The reproducing head section, which constitutes a magnetic recording and reproducing head 200 of the magnetic storage device comprising a magnetic recording medium and the head 200 which is arranged and set apart a prescribed spacing from this magnetic recording medium and executes magnetic recording and reproducing, is composed of a ferromagnetic tunnel junction magneto-resistance effect film 100 comprising a first ferromagnetic layer 11, a second ferromagnetic layer 14 and a tunnel barrier layer 13 held between the first and second ferromagnetic layers 11 and 14. In addition, this ferromagnetic tunnel junction magneto-resistance effect film 100 is so composed that the resistance value of this film 100 exhibits an approximately specified value below 5×10-5Ωcm2.
