PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject titanyloxy phthalocyanine that can be converted to a specific crystal form, has high electrification potential, high sensitivity and high stability and is useful as an electrophotographic photoreceptor or the like by treating an amorphous titanyloxy phthalocyanine in a solvent containing water and naphthalene. SOLUTION: An amorphous titanyloxy phthalocyanine is treated in a solvent containing at least water and naphthalene to prepare a novel titanyloxy phthalocyanine that shows the Bragg angle to the X ray of CuKα1.54Å(20±0.2 deg.) having peaks at 9.5 deg., 13.5 deg., 14.2 deg., 18.0 deg., 24.0 deg. and 27.2 deg.; and can be converted to a crystal form that has the exothermic peak at <=260 deg.C, preferably 230-260 deg.C, more preferably near 239 deg.C. In a preferred embodiment, the titanyloxy phthalocyanine converted to its crystal form is laminated on an electrically conductive supporter as an electric charge-generating substance to provide one or more kinds of photosensitive layers thereby preparing the objective electrophotographic photoreceptor.
