PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a projected image from being adversely influenced by the soiling of a reflection mirror and to improve the quality of the projected image by providing a light scattering plate by which the depth of field is made shallow on an optical path between a projection lens and a DMD(digital micro- mirror device) element. SOLUTION: The light scattering plate 20 is arranged on the optical path between a condenser lens 4 and the DMD element 5 in this device. Thereby, parallel beams (incident light) from the lens 4 are scattered and radiated to the DMD element 5, so that the incident angle of the light to a screen 7 gets large and the depth of field is made shallow. Even when this device is used as the projector of a rear projection type display, the projected image is prevented from being influenced by the soiling or the distortion of the reflection mirror and video quality is improved.
