PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means which can solve problems such as generation of flow, sagging phenomenon of the coating film, and a defective orientation of a metallic flake contg. pigment, even with a highly solidified coating. SOLUTION: This nonaq. polymer dispersion is prepd. by making a dispersion stabilizer portion of a polymer particle dispersion have a chemically reactive group (A), the dispersion being obtd. by polymerizing a monomer in an org. solvent in the presence of the dispersion stabilizer comprising a high mol.wt. polymer, and by reacting a polymerizable unsatd.compd. having a complementary, chemically reactive group (B) which is reactable with the chemically reactive group (A), with the dispersion of the polymer particles to introduce a polymerizable unsatd. group into the dispersion stabilizer portion of the dispersion. A coating compsn. is prepd. by having an org. solvent type thermosetting coating comprise the nonaq. polymer dispersion, a photopolymerization initilator, and optionally a photosensitizer. Curing of the coating film is performed by irradiating the coating particles prior to coating of the coating compsn. or an uncured coating film with light, followed by heating.
