PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new azole derivative, a fluorescent compound of high color purity with narrow emission spectrum width, useful as a material for organic light-emitting diodes of high color purity which are drivable at low voltages, capable of light emission of high luminance and efficiency, and high in durability. SOLUTION: This new azole derivative is a compound having a partial structure of formula I[Q is a group of atoms necessary for forming a 5- or 6-membered ring; X is C-Ra (Ra is H or a substituent) or N; and R11 to R14 are each H or a substituent] or its tautomer, e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound having the partial structure of formula I is obtained, for example, by the following process: 2-methylquinoline, o-sulfobenzimide and zinc chloride are dissolved in N,N-dimethylaniline, the resulting solution is agitated in a nitrogen atmosphere at 150 deg.C for 34 h and then cooled to room temperature, 3N hydrochloric acid is then added to the solution thus cooled, and the resultant solution is agitated again at 95 deg.C for 3 h and then cooled to room temperature.
