PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ion-crosslinked vinyl-compound-modified olefin polymer excellent in the balance among softness, surface hardness, and resistances to impact, abrasion, and oils by using a vinyl-compound-modified olefin polymer prepared by subjecting a vinyl monomer to continuous graft polymerization onto an olefin polymer having specified intrinsic viscosity and mol.wt. distribution by a suitable polymerization method in a plug flow type reactor. SOLUTION: The olefin polymer used has an intrinsic viscosity (at 135 deg.C in decalin) of 0.01-10 dl/g and a mol.wt. distribution (Mw/Mn) by GPC of 7 or lower. The vinyl monomer is preferably one selected from among unsaturated carboxylic acids and derivatives thereof, especially preferable ones being maleic anhydride, (meth)acrylic acid, and derivatives thereof. The vinyl monomer is subjected to continuous graft polymerization onto an olefin polymer by bulk, bulk-suspension or solution polymerization.
