PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely perform the operational control of a traveler as promoting the simplification of equipment structure. SOLUTION: In this commodity storage equipment wherein two passage space guide rails 17 shiftably guiding a traveler 3 in a travel passage T to be made up by what two adjacent storage shelves 1 and 2 are separately shifted away, are composed as shiftably in the parallelly installed direction attendant upon a movement of the storage shelf 2, while a passage space shifting guide rail 32 for shifting the traveler 3 in space between these two passage space guide rails 17 is installed free of movements in the passage cross direction, a light shooting means LS projects a light on the basis of detection information of a relative position detecting means RP detecting whether both these passage space guiding rail and the passage space shifting guide rail 17 and 32 are situated in each proper relative position for transferring the traveler 3 or not, and further, on the basis of detection information of a light receiving means LR receiving the like, it is judged of whether the traveler 3 is transferred from the passage space guide rail 17 to the passage space guide rail 32 or not.
