PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To test an animal (especially, the carcass of an animal) about the insfectious factor causing transmissible spongy encephalopathy(TSE). SOLUTION: The method for detecting an estimate factor related to transmissible spongy encephalopathy(TSE) in an animal includes a process for sampling a body tissue specimen from an animal, a process for reacting the specimen in immunoassay with a labelled antibody capable of reacting with PrPSC, and a process for determining the quantity of the labelled antibody bonded to the specimen.
