PURPOSE:To enable efficient mass-production in an industrial scale by infecting a Panax ginseng with Agrobacterium rhizogenes and culturing the resultant transformed root in a turbineincorporated culture tank while exchanging a culture medium every one week. CONSTITUTION:A Panax ginseng such as Panax japanicum is infected with Agrobacterium rhizogenes by the direct vaccination method, etc., and then cultured in a liquid medium such as Murashige-Skoog medium and the resultant grown transformed root is used as a seed for jar culture using a turbine- incorporated culture tank. The above-mentioned culture is carried out while exchanging the culture medium for a fresh culture medium every a certain period, e.g. every one week on the way of the culture. Decrease in growth rate on the way of the culture can be prevented by the above-mentioned method and a remarkably high final density can be realized. Stable growth of cells, remarkable reduction of culture period, increase in cell density in the culture solution and improvement of saponin productivity are possible thereby. |
