The aim of the invention is to prevent material from accumulating in the zone of transition (8) between the rivet shaft (6) and the rivet head (4) of a punching rivet (2D) and to substantially prevent high stress loads during the riveting process. To this end, the transition (8) from the outer diameter (D2) of the rivet shaft (6) to that of the rivet head (4) is configured as a series of discrete sections (22), thereby forming especially a polygonal geometry of the zone below the head. The inventive punching rivet (2D) is especially useful for joining very thin-walled metal sheets (18A, 18B) produced from steels of superior hardness. |
