A stairway assembly is pivoted between deployed and stowed positions. The stairway in one form includes a sliding support (60) from which the stairway (10) is suspended at a location spaced from stairway pivot (41). A link (74), which may be adjustable in length, couples the coupler (64) to the stairway. A snubber (80) is provided to limit vibration of the stairway (10) when stowed. An actuator (20), which may comprise an electric motor, is positioned above and overlies a portion of a platform (26) of the stairway (10). Extension and retraction of the actuator (20) pivots the stairway (10) between stowed and deployed positions.
