3-(1-(2-Aralkyl-2-carboxyethyl)-1-cyclopentanecarboxamido)-2,3,4,5-tet rahydro-2-oxo-1H-benz(b)azepine-1-acetic acid derivatives (I) are used to prepare pharmaceutical compositions for treating hypertension in large mammals and humans. 3-(1-(2-Aralkyl-2-carboxyethyl)-1-cyclopentanecarboxamido)-2,3,4,5-tet rahydro-2-oxo-1H-benz(b)azepine-1-acetic acid derivatives of formula (I) or their salts are used to prepare pharmaceutical compositions for treating hypertension in large mammals and humans. R<1> = phenyl- or naphthyl-substituted lower alkyl, where phenyl is optionally substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or halogen; R<2>, R<3> = H or biolabile ester groups.
