A variable displacement compressor, comprising a delivery pressure area filled with a delivery pressure and a gas feed path for feeding gas from the delivery pressure area to a crank chamber, wherein an inlet side valve mechanism is provided in the gas feed path and opens and closes the gas feed path to control a pressure inside the crank chamber, an adjusting mechanism is provided in the gas feed path between the inlet side valve mechanism and the crank chamber and changes, with the elapse of time, the amount of gas fed from the delivery pressure area to the crank chamber through the gas feed path in response to the opening of the gas feed path by the inlet side valve mechanism, whereby the delivery capacity of the compressor can be changed rapidly to the minimum delivery capacity, and the compressor can be operated at the optimum efficiency.
