The use of alkyl phosphate esters (I) for extending the durability of temporary or semi-permanent hair colors is claimed. Independent claims are also included for: (a) hair treatment agents in an (non)aerosol mousse or spray, lotion, gel, wash, shampoo, cream, rinse, conditions, color or color fixative containing optionally fluorinated (I); (b) 2-component agents, consisting of (1) enough synthetic direct dye(s) or vegetable dye(s) for coloring hair and (2) (I), which are kept separate before use; and (c) a process for extending the durability of temporary or semi-permanent hair colors by treating hair with a colorant containing synthetic direct dye(s) or vegetable dye(s) and subsequent or simultaneous treatment with another agent containing (I).
