The method involves feeding a first sheet (4) to a system that positions its edge and clamps it; a milling tool machines along the edge; the sheet is released and fed through the system, whereby its second edge is positioned and clamped; a second sheet (5) is fed in, its first edge positioned and clamped; the tool machines the first edge of the seconds sheet and the second edge of the first sheet simultaneously. Both sheets or the machined edges are moved together whilst clamped, then a welding device (19) is moved along them and joins them, then the joined sheets are released and moved to the next position. An Independent claim is also included for a system for implementing the method.
