摘要 <p>A friction material, characterized as comprising, as a friction modifier, 3 to 50 wt % of one or more materials selected from titanates which have a layer or plate structure and are represented b y the general formula (1) AxMyTi2-yO4, wherein A represents an alkali metal except lithium, M represents one or more selected from among lithium, magnesium, zinc, nickel, copper, iron, aluminum, gallium and manganese, x is a number of 0.5 to 1.0, and y is a number of 0.25 to 1.0, and titanates which have a layer or plate structure and are represented by the general formula (2) Hx(M'y)zTi2-yO4.nH2O, wherein M' represents one or more selected from among lithium, magnesium, zinc, nickel, copper, iron, aluminum, gallium and managanese, x is a number of 0.5 to 1.0, y is a number of 0.25 to 1.0, z is 0 or 1, and n is a number of 0 </= n </= 2.</p>
