The anti-inversion windproof umbrella has a canopy tautly secured to the rib structure of an umbrella when the umbrella is in use. The canopy includes a plurality of pockets (4), each extending over the end of the rib structure. Whereby when a gust of wind acts on the underside of the umbrella, and causes a force on the canopy urging it to invert, the pockets act against the end of the ribs preventing the cover from inverting. The pockets act on the ribs and prevent the ribs from moving with respect to the cover, thus preventing the cover from inverting in strong winds. The windcatcher (2) and the pocket (4) consists of the outside diameter of the umbrella and an inside diameter which is smaller than the outside diameter.
